Who Are We?
Welcome to Sow and Tare! The name "Sow and Tare" was on my mind for
about a year before I started my YouTube channel. "Sow" means to plant--
for most people this is to plant seeds to grow; it can also be used to start
something in motion. You can sow a seed, sow a thought, or sow an action. "Tare" means to reset from where you are measuring from--for most people this means to put a container on a scale and make it so the container weight reads zero so it is not calculated in the weight of what you are weighing. This could also mean to bring balance to your life or to take measure only of the stuff you want--the good stuff.
I am in USDA Planting Zone 8b in Douglas County, Oregon; and grow as much food as I can. I am on nearly 70 acres forest/farm land with a hay field, pasture, garden, and forest. I have big plans for the property to be more self-sufficient and look forward to sharing the process with you. I previously urban homesteaded for 11 years on a 7,000 sqft city lot in Zone 9b where I raised quail, chickens, and rabbits, and grew an edible landscaping garden, over 50 fruit trees, and preserve food via dehydrating, canning, freezing, and freeze drying. I am always teaching people wherever I go and whatever I do, so this was a natural progression for me to share information with more people.
With this website, I am expanding my reach and types of experiences I offer you as well as expanding on types of people I can offer services to. I will be conducting workshops and events and selling online. Some items will be local pick-up only, and others can be picked up locally or shipped to further my goal of helping people become more self-sufficient through education, community, and fun!
